Author: – Ms. Shveta Sharma (Yoga Expert)

Yoga is known to be an effective stress buster and thereby helps in maintaining healthy mind and body, as stress is the fertile the breeding ground of almost all of the other ailments.

While Practicing yoga, Youngsters can be benefitted in lot many ways to deal with stress during different phases of their academic year and the competitive years.

Yoga can enable us to be more in the present moment and give us a break from the unnecessary over thinking, which induces the vicious cycle of stress and overthinking. Overthinking is vastly different from creative thinking, as, in creative thinking, the focus is clear and thinking proceeds by finding an alternative solution to fixed creative goal. While in overthinking, it is undue importance to subtle negative thoughts in a ruminative way.

Yoga creates or bends you toward fresh and new thinking patterns.

Stress is the root cause of “if not all” but most of the illness!!!!!!!!!!

Yoga poses help in reducing stress levels by relaxing the muscles and making us focus on certain postures and its synchronicity, with deep breathing.

Lets explore this in more practical ways

While in the focused stress like “ academic stress” teenagers become quick to react than responding to their routine issues. A bit of irregularity in their life (vulnerable in high in this age), they react and get messed up. While doing focused asana we pass through a systemic journey to awareness, clarity, and momentary living, thus gradually and the body feels more stronger, and mind gets clarity.

During stress:

When stress levels are high there is activation of the Sympathetic nervous system (fight-flight mechanism) that causes heart to rush, blood pressure raises, shortness of breath etc. During yoga practice mindful moving and stretching and deep breathing brain takes up the message of calming down and activation of Parasympathetic nervous system takes place, which induces rest in the body and mind.

  • Yoga practices like body scan meditation, breath awareness, OM chanting works more specifically on pranic levels of body, which improves moodiness or self-clarity.
